Russian Gymnast Diet

1 star_none star_none star_none star_none

Used by a world-renowned athlete to get down to her goal weight, this is an extreme diet that cuts food down to dangerous lows.

Categorized under: Ana Diets, European Diets, Extreme Diets, Fasting, Free Diet Programs, Low Cost Diets, No Exercise Diets, Online Diets, Very Low Calorie Diets

Russian Gymnast Diet Review:

Background

This diet was the one that got Olympic silver medalist Irina Tschachina into the right form and weight class to be able to compete at the Olympics. Because she's tall (5 feet 6 inches) compared to most other female gymnasts (who average 5 feet 2 inches), Tschachina had a clear disadvantage when it came to form. Several other Russian gymnasts are thought to be following the diet as well.

What to Eat

The diet is very simple and is meant to help produce a quick and severe weight loss within a week. This is not meant as an ongoing weight loss or maintenance program. The diet allows for three meals: Breakfast (consisting of either a glass of orange juice or a slice of calorie-reduced bread; a large cup of black coffee can also be consumed), Lunch (a fruit salad or a medium apple) and Dinner (8 baby carrots or a green apple). Non-carbonated drinks with no calories can be had without limits.

The Good

Dieters can easily lose 4-11 lbs. in one week.

The Bad

The diet only provides a total of 200 calories, an amount that will lead to malnutrition rather quickly if followed for too long. This diet can promote anorexia.

Comment from a reader: The amount of calories you're saying is wrong. It can't equal only 200 calories total, since a fruit salad on its own adds up to approximately 240 calories. When you add the apple for dinner (60 calories) it adds up to 300. Add a glass of fruit juice at breakfast (around 130 calories) and you get a total of approximately 430 calories. This is still low, but it's not quite as extreme as this article makes out.

Editor's comment: Because this diet is a folk diet passed along anonymously, it's really impossible to say what the portions are.

Costs

No costs associated with this diet.

Trying this xD star star star star star

I'm trying this diet and I think it will be worth it! Only for a week though!

DO NOT TRY THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!! star star star star star

after reading about this 'diet' my daughter decided to try it to lose weight fast. she now is annorexic after not being able to stop the weightloss. it became addictive and my once beautiful young daughter with womanly curves now is 6st 10lb 5ft 5 and fighting to not be admitted into a mental health hospital. all since march this year. she is skin and bone. please love you for who you are. xx

Question star star star star star_none

Is excersise required for this diet?

Excited yet nervous ... star star star star star

I'm actually really excited to try out this diet, I've heard from multiple people that you can lose up to 3-6 lbs in one day and yes, I said ONE DAY. Today I've fasted, but I'm going to try this out tomorrow, would anyone like to join me? If so kik me at fvcxk :)

Good luck, stay strong. You're all beautiful.

Sincerely Hannah

Anorexic diet star star_none star_none star_none star_none

This is my opinion on this diet don't be offended its just my thought but someone said there getting shaky legs and feeling shaky from this diet this is because your bodies not getting enough energy to get you through your day. Your blood Glucose level would be very low which would cause the shaky feeling! It's not good this diet is not a good diet to choose your starving yourself

Love it star star star star star

This diet really works it is great! I lost three pounds in the first day! Should not be a long term thing but I also ate a little more than it recommended but it was yogurt so u don't have to completely starve just remember lots if water

Feeling the diet gave me. star star star star star_none

I really love this diet and the scale shows that from this morning to now (12:46MM) I've lost three pounds. It's amazing.

BUT. My legs have been feeling shaky all day. I've been wobbly and I'd like a different selection of what foods I can eat.

I also got huge cravings so I've been munching on Ice chips for an hour.

I like this though. ALLOT.

Day 1? star star star star star_none

I started this diet yesterday and I have failed already :( My grandma made a special Easter dinner and I would have felt bad if I didn't eat anything. I think it's good so far, though I haven't lost much. I was starving when I went to bed last night and I woke up this morning really full so I don't know what that's about, but I hope it's good!

Gonna start this tomorrow. star star star star_none star_none

I'm going to start this diet tomorrow.

I weigh 132pounds, but I'd like to go down to 115pounds! I've been skinny my whole life :( I want my real body back! (I'm about 5' 2/3')

Doing this now! star star star star star_none

This is brilliant for me! I never eat large amounts of food anyways. I will try to carry out this diet for 2 weeks.

But I will add some of own tips in this diet. I will eat every 3 hours (aren't you supposed to do that, anyways?). Plus instead of eating just an apple with water/tea for breakfast, I will add a 1/4 cup of Cheerios. And then 3 hours later (12:00), I'll have lunch (baby carrots with a few saltine crackers), then 3 hours later I'll have a small snack, (possibly another 1/4 cup of cheerios and water), and then 3 hours later, (6:00) I'll have dinner (carrot sticks with saltine crackers and water).

And I'll just drink a lot of water. So there will be no fluid retention.

This Diet Is Great! star star star star star

This diet is great! I used to be ana but then I "recovered". I decided to relapse and use this diet. It's great to have exactly what you need to eat and when you need to eat it right there in black and white. I've been substituting green tea for fruit juice to cut down on my calories and boost my metabolism.

All those people who want you to "recover" are so full of crap. From someone who's been there, DON'T DO IT!! I was "recovered" for ten years and now I realize my mistake. I know it's tempting, but "normal" sucks. You'll still lose friends, still have bad times, still worry about stuff, and worst of all, you'll be FAT. Plus starting over means you have to do it all over again. So stick to your diets because it is NOT better on the other side!

THIS DIET WORSENS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! star star_none star_none star_none star_none

READ MY REVIEW BEFORE YOU READ OTHERS!

OBVIOUSLY, THE REVIEWS BELOW ARE FROM GIRLS WHO NEVER TRIED THESE DIETS.

First off, I'd like to state that this isn't for losing fat off forever. This is a diet that STORES YOUR FAT DUE TO YOUR STOMACH GOING INTO STARVATION MODE. This is starving you, the only thing you'll be losing is VALUABLE MUSCLE and maybe about 10-20% fat? HORRIBLE!

And how the hell are you going to get your damn PROTEINS AND GRAINS? Those are very imperative also!

If you go on this diet you'll be SLOWLY KILLING YOURSELF. How the f*ck will your vitamins? Don't come up to me with bullshit saying you'll take multi-vitamins. Multi-vitamins are something YOU CANNOT RELY ON. Multi-vitamins don't give you micro-vitamins do they?

Your HAIR AND SKIN will become so frail from this! You'll be STARVING.

Once you get off this diet, you'll just GAIN IT ALL BACK IN THE NEXT TWO DAYS. There's even a very high chance YOU'LL BE MORE OVERWEIGHT THAN BEFORE.

This diet will SCREW UP YOUR METABOLISM!! Once your metabolism is screwed up, IT'LL BE EVEN HARDER TO LOSE WEIGHT IN THE FUTURE.

The key to losing weight THE RIGHT WAY is to eating a HUGE healthy breakfast, a nutricious lunch, and a small dinner. Also, try an easy 10 minute workout before or after each meal. 10 minutes of easy sit-ups, push ups, jumping jacks, and jogging. That's an easy 30 minute work-out at the end of the day! WOW! Please girls, DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll try star star star star_none star_none

I'm going to do this with a few changes. For dinner i will also eat chicken noodle soup which is 51 cals and if my motab slows down i still have green tea which will help out and for snacks, lettuce wont hurt. less that 100 cals extra with my change and a lot more filling. :D

Tomorrow star star star star star_none

Starting it tomorrow :3

if it works as well as the ABC diet it should be great. (on ABC i lost 33 lbs in three months of repeating it)

I'm going to do it until i lose another 39 lbs (:

I need this diet! star star star star star

I'm rating this diet a 5 (although I haven't true it yet) because it seems very doable. I have been searching for a diet that didn't have so many options as to what I can eat and actually worked. I'm 5'6, 190lbs and a mother of two young kids. I workout about 3 times a week (maybe 4). I am going to start this tomorrow and continue until I lose about 40-45lbs. I will post my weekly results along the way.

I plan on doing it. star star star star star

I'm going to do this starting after Sunday, it doesn't seem too difficult. My stomach can't hold a lot, a tall coffee at Starbucks usually keeps me full all day, so there isn't much a problem with this.

I'm 5'3 or so, about 145lbs (started at 175lbs alternating between SGD and ABCD with loads of exercise).

People always say you can't maintain that loss of weight after you stop the diet, the fuck is that.

I've maintained this weight for like, three months, having got to it in two, and I've been eating at least 1,000 cals a day for a while, since I wasn't actively losing weight, and I haven't gained, despite not exercising at all =/

And when I lost the weight I wasn't eating more than 300 cals a day, with a possible 500 sometimes... Not healthy, but still you can maintain that weightloss when you start to eat more, if you just don't go eat a whole can with a side of 50 doughnuts....

RE: Hair loss star star_none star_none star_none star_none

@ Nanz:

From what you said about having hair loss, fragile nails blah blah blah... if someone knew about that but still wanting to do this, obviously they can always take multivitamins to keep hair, skin and nails healthy...i'm just saying :)

excited for this! star star star star star

can't wait to try this in the spring time when i don't have to do any extreme sports. i'll be able to do this and lose the extra pounds along with working out, hope it all works out!

yes star star star star star

I did this diet in the summer (a year ago), and I went from about 125 to 112, that's like 13 pounds? ( i don't know metric but i'd guess 56 kilos to 50kilos, maybe. if you're english: i basically lost a stone) I was 5'6" at the time (66 inches, unsure of metric)

I only did this diet for five days and I lost weight. of course, sometimes instead of toast I would have half of an orange. I'm going to be doing this diet again, starting tomorrow, for exactly one week, and then reviewing it. You can check out my tumblr if you want. (ana-wrecks-ya)

Ummmm star star star_none star_none star_none

For the people that want to lose like 30-40 lbs I would not recommend this. Unless your at a healthish weight. Because if your a bit overweight I would eat healthy and exercise alot. But I'm 5'6 and 119.6 lbs :O I'm huge but I use to be 106 and I was still fat. So I'm doing this diet til January 1. Then I'm going to start the ABC diet from there. And I'm tired of people saying you'll gain it all back. Really? If you binge for a day you'll gain it back? No. I find fruit to be very fulling and yummy so I don't see I problem with this diet..

232lb np question star star star star star

I am not a athlete but I did gain a lot of weight being on steriods on medication and depression now I am out of the hospital I was 320 was just drinking lime/maple B syrup/cayanne pepper Now 232 in 3 weeks..this is a very do able diet our bodies really does not need that much to live..and I drinking ALkaline water 3 liters a day everyday I am flushing the fat and elemenating the waste doing lots of yoga and bouncing....food is fuel thats it! go organic too buy a juicer...I will come back in 6 months to give you the results don't for get Green High Vitamins and clean the metals out of your body! good luck everyone

GO star star star star star

I'm going to try this one. I need to lose 80 pounds before the March. (Its november now) Wish me luck!

PLEASE DONT DO THIS IF YOU ARE NOT AN ATHLETE YOU WILL NOT LOSE WEIGHT YOU WILL GET VERY SICK AND GAIN WEIGHT star star_none star_none star_none star_none

This diet is NOT the correct way to lose weight and once off it unless you are an olympic gymnast and train everyday you will gain more weight than you lose doing it. I recently lost nearly 40kilos in 7 months, thats roughly 80 pounds. I literally cleaned up my food, I now do not eat any 'white' food, pasta, bread, sugar ect... these are empty foods your body can live without. I drink 4 litres of water a day and take a multi vitamin in the morning and at night. I snack on celery all day as it burns mroe calories digesting it than it actually contains. TO ALL THOSE YOUNG GIRLS ABOVE WHO ARE OVERWEIGHT AND STRUGGLING TO GET IT OFF. Do not do this!!!! you will be sad, and hungry all the time, I spent 17yrs doing crash diets like this and by the time I was 30 I was dramatically unwell and severly over weight.

Has anyone done Russian gymnast diet star star star star star_none

i think it can lead to anerexia.. but since i hav a slow metabilisim it gets better everyday n i think im gonna start the russian diet starting tomorrow... i dont want flab and extra fat over my bones.. wish me luck!!

Interesting. star star star star star

I began this diet 4 days ago, and I have already lost 3 pounds. It is the most incredible thing. I was a dancer when I was younger, and eventually, my parents could no longer afford it. I gained about 35 pounds. I've lost 18 of it. Thisdiet is so helpful. Next season, I hope to get back into dance, at a lower weight than ever before. This diet is perfectly fine, if you do not do it ffor prolonged amounts of time, and if you feel ill or if you are going to faint, I sugest you drink tea with a little bit of sugar. It keeps you stable. Good luck, my darlings, in your weight loss endeavours!

Bad for you star star_none star_none star_none star_none

It's NOT good for your health since it'll slow down your metabolism and as soon you'll done with the diet, you're going to gain all your weight back again (maybe even more)

Going to attempt. star star star star star_none

I'm kind of excited to try this. I had honestly gotten really good at giving up food for a while, And I lost alot of weight that way. Only after like, four months, maybe more, I started binging. This is really inspiring for me to try. People always tell you that you'll just put the weight back on, But the thing is, That takes time. So does losing the weight. It's all about porportions.(: I reallly hope I can keep this up! I think next monday I'll come back and tell you how it works. I'm 5'0 & 106 pounds, So lets see how it goes, kay ? xxx

Trying It star star star star_none star_none

I will try the diet and get back to you all.

I will go on a strict 14 day trial.

It may not sound healthy but Im sure if we keep tabs on our bodys we will be fine.

so motivating star star star star star

Hi

I am going to try this diet.

wish me luck

I'm going to start this tomorrow! star star_none star_none star_none star_none

I once tried a diet where I would only eat breakfast and dinner, but I found it hard when I was at school and all my friends were eating around me. I lost around 4-5 kilos, but put it all back on after I gave up on healthy eating. Now I can eat a fruit salad or something around them instead of nothing or an unhealthy diet. Cannot wait to see the results either! But I'll start tomorrow because it's Monday, and the start of the week. So I'll be more motivated to do it all together. I'm currently 59kilos and I want to get to at least 48-50kilos before September. So exciteddd! :)

diet star star star star star

how much weight can i lose in 10 days if i'm on this diet and work out at the gym like 2 hours a day? in 10 days i'm going on vacation at the seaside and i want to look thinner. :> Good luck to everyone!

i feel so fat!! star star star star star

im 15 and weigh about 132 pounds, but my arms are so fat! thats what im most self consious about..and the rest of my body but mostly that. apparently you have to lose body fat for them to get thinner so im gunna try to do this diet for a week or two, i want to get down to 110 by the end of this month (im going on holiday) how much weight have you guys lost with this?

i dont care what people say i wanna try it!!! star star star star star

i am so excited to start this diet yah i hear how people are saying its bad well than dont do it but for me i want to give it a try if it has worked for other people than i believe it will work for me im 5'2 and 150 pounds i want to get down to 130 with this diet than work from there by eating better and exercising wish me luck!!! :)

before my holiday! star star star_none star_none star_none

I'm 15 and 140lbs and feel fat all the time :( going to try this diet starting from tomorrow till friday...i know it's only 6 days BUT i want to loose 10lbs :)

summer diet! star star star star_none star_none

Im 15 and weight 120 pounds. I'm going to try this and i reallllyyyy hope it works. I would love to actually look good in a bathing suit this summer.

not a good idea star star star star_none star_none

I'm sorry but, this diet can only go for so long. It seems simple right? Good luck to anyone with that much self control because once you lost weight and think "well let me just reward myself" one piece of chocolate that goes to your mouth you immediately gain it all back. You'll be starving all day and just end up binging and GAINING more weight instead of loosing it. not smart. Include good fats in your diet(plain greek yogurt, natural oatmeal, hardboiled eggs), it will fill you up and actually help you loose weight with the help of fruits and veggies of course.

Sounds good! but im having doubts about it! star star star_none star_none star_none

I am currently 17 and im 5'1 i had a baby 6 months ago and i use to weigh 109 before i got prego, now i weigh 145:/ i want to at leat weigh 110, and i really want to lose weight i dont like to be called fat by people anymore and i am planning to become a model, i have pospartum depression and i really want to lose weight:/ can i get some advise about this diet or what should i do to lose 31 pounds?

Ballerina diet star star star star star_none

I'm a professional ballerina and I'm 5'3. I think this would be a good diet, as long as it isn't long term. The best time to do it for athletes would probably be during a break. I've been wanting to lose ten pounds so I will try it.

Good star star star star star_none

Planning on doing this for 7 days, hopefully lose around 15lb? then I'd be at 110lb and the extra 2 i can get off whilst going back to healthy diet. Its extreme, but so worth it!

diet for summer star star star star star_none

I would love to try this. Im thinking of sticking to this for 2 weeks cause I'm 5'3 and 140 looking to lose 20 lbs. To keep it more nutritional I was thinking of adding carrot snacks throughout the day between meals or grapes.

For girls who want to be beautiful... star star star_none star_none star_none

Girls are on this looking to look weight and look great, but what they don't understand is even SHE disliked her appearance at her goal weight.

It will lead to nail breakage, hair loss, the wrinkled bag of bone look. I want abs, light slender muscle, like beyonce, or those other celebs boys kill for.

Don't kill yourself for beauty, wha'ts beauty worth if you're dead?

ana star star star star_none star_none

Hey I'm ana and ive been fasting for the last 3 days and am starving I think i will try this out and be 90lbs im getting closer and i hope this helps me :)

Hair loss star star_none star_none star_none star_none

This is NOT a diet, it's called starvation, Of course you may loose weight but along with that you will loose hair, have very fragile nails, ugly skin, and your body will not Have enough calories to maintaina a normal metabolism that will help you in the long run, that is why a lot of people who do this for as long as they can and when they start eating "normal" they end up gaining a lot of weight back. The weird thing is that this article doesn't mention the Russian gymnast's complications that came along with the weight lost. Everybody needs protein, carbs, vitamins, minerals; being insufficient of these is very a dangerous attack to our body.

Im excited :) star star star star star_none

My friend tried this diet and lost 10 pounds. She referred me to it, now im so exciteddd. :)

Wrong information star star star star_none star_none

The amount of calories your saying on this is wrong. It can't equal only 200 calories total, since a fruit salad on its own adds up to approx. 240 calories - plus the apple for dinner (60 calories) it adds up to 300 - add a glass of fruit juice at breakfast (around 130 calories) and you get a total of approx. 430 calories. This amount is still too low, but it's not quite as extreme as this article makes out.

I've tried this and similar diets for a few days at a time. It works if you at least have a brain, but any longer than that and it damaging both physically and psychologically.

Made me feel bad star star star star star

I went on this diet to lose pounds that I didn't want back. The second day I was on it I passed out during rugby practice. My coach asked me what I'd eaten for lunch and of course I lied. The fact that I was embarrassed by my behavior leads me to belief that this diet isn't healthy. Not long term for an athlete. Just eat everything in moderation. Moderation is the age-old road to success.

Can't wait star star star star star

I bought everything I needed too. I am currently 5"6' and I weigh 165. I'm not fat but I'm not skinny either. I'm 15 years old. My goal is to be at LEAST 130. Wish me luck! :D

Eager to try star star star star star

Im so excited to try this! Doubt ill last, but its worth a try. Im currently 5"4 and weigh 118lbs

My goal weight is 110lbs!

Wish me luck!

:D

Brilliant! star star star star star

This diet, I have faith in. I never eat more than 500 calories to begin with, to be perfectly honest. I'm 5'2.5" and weight 102 lbs, aiming short term for 90lbs and long term for 85lbs. I know what I can handle, and I know this isn't too healthy.
